Schools and Community Based Organizations (CBOs)
The Career Place Youth Department receives grants from both the state and federal government to help “at risk” youth in the Metro North Area, which includes: Arlington, Belmont, Burlington, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, North Reading, Reading, Revere, Somerville, Stoneham, Wakefield, Watertown, Wilmington, Winchester, Winthrop, and Woburn.

Workforce Investment Act (WIA) — GED Programs
The Career Place works with GED Programs in Cambridge, Chelsea, Malden, and Somerville. These programs are for youth (ages 16—21) who are no longer in high school and have no high school diploma, are low–income, or have a barrier to employment. For more information, contact:

Workforce Investment Act (WIA) — In School Youth Programs
The Career Place works with two programs, Mystic Learning Center (Somerville Housing Authority) and Woburn Housing Authority, serving at–risk youth who are currently attending high school in the cities where the programs are located. The purpose of these programs is to provide educational, career readiness, and support services to an at–risk population. Recruitment for these programs is done solely by the programs themselves. Schools and youth providers interested in applying for this type of grant funded program should please visit the REB website.

Workforce Investment Act (WIA) — Transitional Services
Transitional Services are workshops teaching work readiness, interpersonal skills, and career options to at–risk youth aged 14–21. The program emphasizes services for out–of–school youth, but is also available for in–school youth. The workshops are delivered in a group setting and take place on–site at youth and community–based organizations, schools, and other nonprofit organizations. For more information, contact:

Connecting Activities
Connecting Activities is an in–school youth program for high school students attending Malden, Somerville, and Woburn High School. The program provides work readiness skills, and students gain hands–on work experience with the program’s job placement assistance and internships. (NOTE: Priority given to students on ‘Warning’ or ‘Needs Improvement’ levels on MCAS. However, all students are welcome.) For more information, contact:

Pathways to Success— MCAS
Pathways to Success provides MCAS support services and career planning for youth who haven’t scored high enough on the MCAS to earn their Competency Determination(CD) required for high school graduation. This program serves both current high school seniors and youth who would have graduated except for their MCAS scores. For more information, contact:

Fee Based Group Workshops (Tailored Services)
