Connecting Activities for Youth

Reaching beyond reading, writing and arithmetic, today's students must play an active role in laying the groundwork for their future careers. To help facilitate this, The Career Place, a Massachusetts One-Stop Career Center located in Woburn, has launched Connecting Activities (CA). The CA program is grant funded and helps students in the Metro North Boston area connect with local businesses, which provide them with paid internships to build skills and open opportunities for their future. Overall, the program encourages and empowers students to become active, positive and contributing members of society.

Your organization's participation plays a vital role in the success of the next generation's workforce! In order for students to make educated decisions about their future, it is necessary for them to gain hands-on experience in the workforce.

Program Goals:

  • Expose students to leading industries and business leaders in the community
  • Gain hands-on experience in a professional environment
  • Develop workplace competencies in a variety of subjects including: Problem-solving, Acting Professionally, Interacting With Others, Understanding All Aspects of the Industry, and Taking Responsibility for Career and Life Choices.
  • Empower students to make more educated decisions in regards to their occupational, social and academic future
  • While in school, the CA students gain knowledge about the job-search process through mandatory workshops, individual counseling, guest speakers and field trips.

Internship Goals to Help Meet:

The CA program intertwines business, community and student needs. The specific job duties are allocated and agreed upon through the employer, coordinator and student, and can vary in length.

In our ever-changing economy, this program is more relevant than ever. Please consider hosting a student intern this year. We will follow up with you in the near future and make an appointment to discuss internship opportunities for students in the Metro North region. Thanks in advance for your help with this effort to make a difference in a young person's future!
