Loan program opens doors to career success

Job seekers in the recent economic environment have faced the reality that the ability to compete in today’s fierce job market often hinges on bringing top notch, up-to-date skills to the interview table. This fact only opens the door to the next dilemma: Pay the mortgage or finance an education to learn new skills?

MEFA Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority

To help solve this dilemma, the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA) has joined forces with the state’s Department of Workforce Development to offer the Education Rewards Loan program - a program for students to pursue non-degree occupational training, or part-time associate’s degree programs that will help them enter in-demand occupations.

MEFA was created by the state legislature in 1982 at the request of Massachusetts colleges and universities, and is a self-financing, not-for-profit state authority dedicated to assisting students, parents, colleges and universities in meeting the challenges of financing higher education.

A full range of occupations qualify for eligibility under this loan program:

Healthcare, architecture, computer engineering, construction and production, office and administrative support, life and social science, fitness and personal care.
